  • What is USAA homeowners insurance?

  • USAA is an insurance provider that offers affordable home coverage for military members and their families. You can customize its policies to your specific needs, with coverage for dwellings, belongings, earthquake damages, loss of use, personal liability and more. It also provides policy add-ons including options for flooding, rental properties and valuable belongings.

  • You can get free quotes online or through a local agent, and USAA offers discounts for bundled policies, a claims-free history, protective devices and more.

  • USAA homeowners insurance coverage

  • USAA offers a few different coverage options for single-family homes, condos, mobile homes, farms and rental properties. Your policy might include coverage for the home itself as well as other structures on your property, such as garages, storage sheds, fences and driveways. USAA homeowners policies also cover belongings, weather damage, theft, vandalism and loss of use of the property.

  • You can also include personal liability for added protection in the event you’re responsible for someone’s injury or property damage. USAA provides umbrella insurance for damages exceeding your policy limits.

  • USAA home insurance quotes and rates

  • To see your customized USAA homeowners rate, complete an online quote request or contact its 24/7 support line. Costs vary depending on your home and location, with premiums typically ranging from $500 to $2,500 per year. This cost is usually paid out of your mortgage’s escrow account, but you may pay it in full or in installments if you don’t have a mortgage.

  • USAA offers several price-saving options, including multipolicy, protective device and claims-free discounts. You can also save on your premium by choosing a higher deductible.

  • USAA homeowners insurance FAQ

  • Active-duty military, veterans and honorably discharged service members qualify for USAA’s insurance coverage — as well as their spouses, widows or widowers, unremarried former spouses, children and stepchildren.

  • Your USAA homeowners insurance policy can cover HVAC repairs or replacements in certain cases. For example, if your equipment is damaged in a power surge, your coverage could kick in. However, home insurance often will not cover these systems; a home warranty typically offers more thorough coverage for HVAC systems.

  • USAA home insurance covers fire, theft, vandalism, most weather-related events, liability and identity theft. Its coverage varies from state to state, but you can customize your policy based on your home and your needs.

  • USAA homeowners insurance is available in all 50 states. Its local agents are available throughout the country.

  • In the span of a yr. USAA has sent four ** guys to assess my roof. Each time I receive a statement under 2k. My contractor clearly informed USAA, I need a new roof. Being a ** customer, I wonder if a ** customer, had roof issues would they issue a full payment for a new roof, instead of me filling a claim. Every time it rains, only to be given a settlement for patchwork. Yep, patchwork. The roof is over 20 yrs old. USAA is awful for damage claims.

  • Jackie, I am unfortunately going thru the same run around with USAA. I live 15 miles outside of Atlanta. Several neighbors (with other insurance companies) had their roofs replaced on first adjuster evaluation. There is a website that tracks hail storms. I searched by zip code and it returned the date, size of hail and crossroads. My house is in middle of about 5 separate repots at crossroads next to my neighborhood. I’m still in middle of appealing so I won’t say much more.

  • USAA asked to take on my property insurance when Security First backed out due to the life of my roof. I went through a wind storm on Sept 28 2022 & called Security First to inspect roof and they said everything was fine. Security dropped me as a policy holder stating the roof was too old. USAA called me and said they will take on my property insurance to then find out I had wind damages under Security First. USAA s/h sent Security First the bill, if you asked me.

  • Long story short USAA approved the roof but denied having to fix my chimney that was destroyed from the storm as well as my patio roof post came apart causing my patio roof to sag allowing rain water to flow on the side of the patio to where it is now dangerous waiting for another storm to have my entire patio fall. I received an escrow increase and plan on moving on. It's better to have everything fixed not pick and choose and then I have to look for the contractor makes thing take a bit longer. I am not a happy but now do know I have to find someone else.

  • Been with this company for 20 years which really does not mean anything to them. Transparency is lagging with this organization. They raise rates without even speaking to the customer or providing any sort of communication. Your Homeowner's rate is now also determined by your credit score. Customer service is also lacking and you have to fight with the automated system to speak to anyone. Welcome to your future with automation. Do I recommend them: no. We used to previously have great service with USAA, but that has changed. They are no longer a company I recommend.

  • I’ve relied on USAA for several years. I’m a senior citizen on a fixed monthly income and USAA just increased my renter’s insurance by almost $60/year!! I called to inquire why my insurance went up so much with no prior notice. The only options to get my prices lowered were to lower my coverage — I’m at the bare minimum coverage now, or to raise my deductible — currently $500 to $1,000!!! This is nothing but pure GREED!! My cost of living has drastically increased and I depend on my social security retirement to live. This is totally unsustainable!! I’m so tired of the current trend everywhere with GREED! Shame on you USAA!

  • The worse experience with an insurance company, filed a homeowner's claim with water damage. They say it's long term damage but yet the "long term" damage was able to be cleared up in a few days by myself and the wood and the water damage wasn't long term since it just started. Tried to get a manager to dispute it around 6 times, told they would call within 24 hours and 3 days later no call and the agents claim he called and left a message. No message or call and no results, going on a week and a half and just keep getting the runaround and transfers to other people who can't get me answers.

  • I had a terrible run in with USAA while submitting a claim. I think that they are normally good but clearly they still hire bad people. Her name was Sandy and she was claims service agent. If you hear her name..RUN.

  • USAA is guilty of a bait and switch scam! I spent 2 hours on the phone with Charity going over every detail of my home and the fact I'd been involved in a no-fault-builder-negligence homeowner's claim during the previous 12 months. We discussed the repairs and upgrades made to the home during that repair work. She had access to the county tax records and the drawing matches the blueprint of my home. It was built 5 years ago as a model home and nothing was changed. I received her quote and it was cheaper than my current insurance with better coverage. I called to start that policy since my mortgage company requires it to go through escrow and I can't just pay it myself. When I called, suddenly the quote Charity sent wasn't accurate. The original porches of the house weren't included.

  • The dwelling coverage amount wasn't possible to quote anymore. And even though I DOUBLED the wind/hail deductible over Charity's quoted amount, the policy came out $100 higher than my current insurance. This kind of bait and switch shouldn't happen with any insurance company EVER, but to pull this scam on VETERANS and their families?!?! What a disgusting way to do business. USAA has lost me forever.

  • Do not trust USAA Insurance! 36 years of being a member means nothing to them. In August 2023 we experienced a major water leak and contacted Roto-Rooter for clean up and remediation. USAA paid Roto-Rooter the full amount with no issues. Exactly 30 days later, we experienced another major water leak in another room in our house and again contacted Roto-Rooter for the water cleanup and remediation. This time, USAA determined Roto-Rooter's rates were outside of the industry standard and refused to pay the full amount that Roto-Rooter charged. Even though Roto-Rooter stated several times their rates for our area had not changed in over two years.

  • After talking to the USAA adjuster and his supervisor, they refused to budge, even though USAA had paid Roto-Rooter the full amount they charged for the same type of water clean up and remediation 30 days earlier. After filing a grievance with a member of USAA CEO's team and then our state insurance board, USAA continued to change it's position and we had to pay the difference of $1,600 to Roto-Rooter. Bottom Line: Do not listen to USAA's motto of "We know what it's like to serve." It's a ploy to make you believe that USAA will be loyal to their customer. They will not! After 36 years, we found out the hard way and have dropped them.

  • I’ve been a long time customer of USAA for all of my insurance and banking needs and up until now, have had very good interactions with them. Usually they are very responsive and helpful and rarely kept me waiting for anything. I guess everything is fine until you try to file a claim against your homeowners insurance. The case manager assigned to my claim did not seem to understand the details of my situation and quickly found some minor detail to dismiss my claim. The next day I called back to request more information and was met with her voicemail. I’ve left messages every day this week on her and her managers extensions and have heard nothing.

  • In 11/2020 I bought a home. My home insurance was 2225.00 a year. My mortgage payment 1345.00 a month. It 1/2024 my House insurance is pennies short of 6k and my mortgage has gone to 2014.81 a month. Every single COLA I receive as a Vet, USAA takes along with a few more dollars. I have zero claims, never missed an auto payment. These people know our money is guaranteed so they raise it to the roof. It is time the government looks into this company for gauge veterans. Nearly $700. monthly increase on home and then the increase on car insurance is crazy. I pay 344 for car payment and over 400 in insurance. Not tickets, no claims, absolutely nothing. Now I have had USAA since 2010 or 12. With no claims or tickets. Then they have the gall to say, "We are saving you 5K by bundling." This company needs to be have a class action suit for ripping off veterans.
